The I AM Activity of Mount Shasta

Mt. Shasta

There is a freedom that one never has to fight for or escape to. It is always here and now regardless of a person’s circumstances.  Many ascended masters have realized this freedom. Ascended Masters are human beings who have realized their oneness with the supreme. They include Jesus, Buddha, Babaji, and Saint German, to name only a small few. There are many valid paths to God realization, and it has been wisely said that all paths eventually lead to the same place. Yet why take a slow path?  After investigating and practicing many spiritual practices and religions of both the East and the West, it seems to me that the I AM Activity could be one of the shortest and direct paths to God-Realization for those who are ready. Yet, it is interesting how most of us are not ready for an accelerated awakening until after some kind of crisis, as the following story illustrates.

I would like to introduce to you a friend of mine named Yoj who lives at the base of Mount Shasta in Northern California.  I met Yoj in a café called Has Beans while I lived at Mt. Shasta from 1997 to 2001. When I first met him, he was so glowing alive, joyful and present with me, I first thought he might be a little crazy, for he seemed to be ecstatically happy for no apparent reason. One day a few years ago whileYoj photo Yoj was at work beaming his usual big smile, someone asked him if he ever had a bad day. Yoj’s instant response was, “No, I gave up that habit a while back.” During my residence at Mt. Shasta, Yoj acted with impeccable integrity and frequently gave a helping hand in whatever way he could to those in his community, and thus he has many friends.  I am deeply grateful for the abundant time Yoj gave me, helping me rise above my human issues at the time.

Once I asked Yoj, were you always this joyful?  He replied a flat “No.” He said that eight years earlier in fact he was quite miserable with his life.  He was addicted to marijuana and in a troubling relationship that eventually ended. He was growing marijuana for money, when one day a friend warned him that he was about to get hauled-in by the authorities. He immediately fled out of state and settled at Mt. Shasta where he discovered the “I Am” Activity.

The I Am Activity began in the 1930’s when a man named Guy Ballard was walking on Mt. Shasta and happened to meet on the trail a young and vibrant man who introduced himself as Saint Germain. Saint Germain handed to Mr. Ballard a beautiful goblet of some kind of elixir of light from which Mr. Ballard drank.  Mr. Ballard’s entire body and mind filled with a warm peace, love, and joy beyond comprehension as Saint Germain began  explaining the I AM activity, that this peace, love, and joy is our birthright at all times and places.

How can this be, when there are so many troubling circumstances in this world, one may ask?  We suffer solely because we know not who we are. We have a habit of taking our human circumstances personally, when really we are not of this world.  The I Am Activity remind us who we really are,  that our true identity is more than our ego-personalities, so much more than our issues that we so easily become identified to.  Instead of powerless, we are powerful beyond measure. Simply said, The I am activity is the practice of remembering our divine identity; that truly we are made in the image and likeness of our creator. Mr. Ballard developed an amazing connection with Saint Germain and over the following years published over a hundred books; the first of which I highly recommend is called Unveiled Mysteries. Many accredited authors and leaders have said it is “the book that launched The New Age.”

To leave his troubles behind and start anew, Yoj stumbled onto Mount Shasta to discover the I AM activity which he practiced daily. One might think that if he practiced remembering his divinity all the time that he would become one strange cat, like sit around and meditating all the time and holding out his begging bowl for others to fill. No Yoj partakes in all the activities of normal human life including working responsively with others and paying his bills, yet there is a glow about him that makes him magnetic.  In his presence, those people who are ready experience healings, as was the case for myself.

One early morning last year (2006), Yoj was standing outside his home gazing up at the majestic Mount Shasta in deep appreciation of all the DIVINE LOVE in his life, when Federal Marshals arrived to take him in for his illegal activities with Marijuana 8 years earlier. As soon as Yoj noticed the patrol cars a divine message came to him that this was a great opportunity for service!  While they were handcuffing him he did not stop evoking the light. He summoned the deepest love and light from the source of all existence to surround him and touch the hearts of each of the Marshals.  They responded with unusual kindness, and this was the flow of things for the next five and one half months under Federal custody. Many a prisoner was transformed by Yoj’s joyful and compassionate presence. One prisoner who misunderstood Yoj’s intentions, actually slugged him in the face, but within two minutes tearfully apologized as Yoj remained steadfast in only seeing divine innocence in this troubled man.

When it came time for Yoj’s sentencing trial, a representative of the judge was sent to him to ask him everything about his life. Yoj told her everything, including his illegal activities and miserable life and how he found his divinity and freedom that is within us all. The lady was amazed, and added in the report how totally present and clear Yoj was with her at all times.  Subsequently, the judge ordered that Yoj be released without probation. (From my experience of visiting prisoners, this early of a release for such a crime is highly unusual.)

When we know our inner-freedom, eventually it must be out-pictured into our lives. It is a spiritual law that Outer experience follows inner reality.

The I Am Activity explains that the most powerful words in the universe are “I AM.” When one says, I am sick, tired, or angry, then all that one is becomes crystallized into that limited condition, and there is no way out because one had become identified with one’s  human circumstances and moods. I had a girlfriend who was convinced she was ill even though the doctors could never find anything.  But she kept affirming her illness until her body finally responded to this command.  The last time I heard she was very ill and her young daughter was paying the repercussions.  If one would say with feeling, “I feel sick and tired, and angry, and, I am more than that!  In fact I am the infinite healing and resolution of all my human concerns. My true essence is perfection of health now and always.  I forgive myself for judging myself as less than healthy, as having less than infinite energy, or, as being angry.  I am completely content with who I am today, for I am made of the same substance of all there is, and this is what I now see in others.
I am healthy, happy, and free of all limiting appearances!”

People who practice the I Am activity tend to be joyful, wealthy, and vital.  What shortens our lives more than anything is our identification with who we are not. We are not really fearful though we learned to believe this. The I am activity is about emptying oneself of limited beliefs through remembering that one’s true Self is free of all suffering, peaceful, connected to the entire universe, is made of the same substance as the Source, and is here to celebrate the miracle of expanding love and light that moves through all things.

Sound a bit too far out to be true? You will never really know if the shoe fits unless you try it on. If you decide to read Unveiled Mysteries by Godfree Ray King (Guy Ballard’s pen name), I offer the following considerations.  Because it was written in the 1930’s the language is written with a masculine tone only because it was the only style of writing at that time. The other thing to consider is that this is not an ordinary book.  Truly it is a mind blower, and it is meant to be so.  If you come home after work and start reading it, it is likely that you will not get its essence because your mind will be too full.  This book is best received when you have some space in your life for a new way of being, like on a vacation.  Better yet, go to Mount Shasta and read it there, as I did.  I felt the ascended masters with me, as I was flooded with the joyful tears of my homecoming.
